The streams Wild Trout fishing is what this part of the world is renowned for amongst those who pursue this skillful sport. Karringmelkspruit, near Lady Grey, is a Wild Trout fisherman’s paradise. Many kilometers of sparkling mountain stream winds through gorges towards the Kraai River and offers waters filled with Rainbow Trout and Yellow fish.   Fishing season for the Karringmelkspruit is from September to April and it is strictly “Catch and Release”.   All year round fishing is allowed at the Kraai River and it is preferred that you catch and release.


The Mountain View Country Inn is affiliated to the Barkly Wild Trout Association which allows guests access to the finest river frontage and best fishing spots in the area. 


The Mountain View Country Inn can also arrange for fishing at the town Dam which is about 3.5 kilometers away.   This dam was built in the early 1920’s by damming up the valley above the town.  It is most scenic while it also offers good Trout fishing.  Fishing at the dam is allowed all year round and you are allowed to keep what you catch.
